Before You Travel

All travellers visiting Tanzania must carry a passport valid at least six months after arrival.
Tourist visas can be obtained:
• Online (e-visa) before travel
• On arrival at major international airportsMain airports:
• Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
• Julius Nyerere International Airport – Dar es Salaam (DAR)
• Abeid Amani Karume International Airport – Zanzibar (ZNZ)Typical visa fee: USD 50 per person (subject to nationality and change).
We recommend bringing USD cash for the visa payment if obtaining the visa on arrival.

The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS).
• ATMs are available in major towns such as Arusha, Moshi and Dar es Salaam
• Hotels and lodges accept Visa and Mastercard
• Small shops and markets prefer cashUS Dollars are widely accepted in tourism areas. Please bring newer notes issued after 2009.
We recommend exchanging or withdrawing a small amount of local currency upon arrival at the airport.

Kenya uses UK-style three-pin plugs (Type G). Many safari camps operate on solar or generator power, so electricity may only be available at certain hours. A power bank is useful for charging phones and cameras.
