Before You Travel

  • All travellers visiting Kenya must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before departure.

Applications can be completed online at: www.etakenya.go.ke

Processing usually takes up to 3 working days, but we recommend applying at least one week before travel.

Current government fee: USD 30 per person (subject to change).

    Documents Required

    • Passport valid at least 6 months after arrival
    • Passport photo or selfie
    • Flight details (arrival & departure)
    • Travel itinerary or Eyes on Africa voucher
    • Email address and phone number

  • Money

The local currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES).

    • ATMs are widely available in cities and major towns
    • Hotels and lodges accept Visa and Mastercard
    • Small shops and markets prefer cash

US Dollars are widely accepted in tourism. Please bring notes issued after 2013.

We recommend exchanging or withdrawing a small amount of local currency upon arrival at the airport.

  • We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance including:

    • Medical coverage
    • Trip cancellation
    • Emergency evacuation

  • Kenya is located in a malaria-risk region, although the risk for short safari stays is generally low. Recommended precautions:

    • Use mosquito repellent
    • Wear long sleeves in the evening
    • Sleep under mosquito nets provided in lodges

Some travellers choose malaria prophylaxis. Please consult your doctor before travelling.

Your Safari Experience

  • The word “Safari” means journey in Swahili.

    Game drives usually take place:

    Early morning
    Late afternoon

These are the times when wildlife is most active.

Midday is usually reserved for relaxing at the lodge or enjoying the surrounding nature.

  • Your driver-guide will be one of the most important parts of your safari experience.

All our guides are highly experienced professionals with deep knowledge of:

    • wildlife behaviour
    • ecosystems
    • local culture and history

They will plan each day together with you and adapt the safari depending on wildlife movements and your interests.

  • Kenya uses UK-style three-pin plugs (Type G). Many safari camps operate on solar or generator power, so electricity may only be available at certain hours. A power bank is useful for charging phones and cameras.
